Thuy graduated from the University Conservatory of Music, Ho Chi Minh City in 1988, and until 1990 was a Concert Violinist in the Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra, embarking on her painting career in 1991. She is a member of the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Art Association, and has exhibited widely across Asia, the USA and the United Kingdom. Her paintings of young girls in their traditional dress possess a simplicity of form that is almost graphic, and her use of an almost monochromatic palette imbue her paintings with an aura of serenity and a distinctly Vietnamese mood. Her subject matter includes semi abstract compositions of rice bowls, still lifes, houses, and waterside scenes that together combine in an artistic vision that is purely Vietnamese.
